The Healing Prayer Team
What is Healing Prayer?
Healing Prayer is offered by baptized Christians for anyone who seeks a prayer of healing for themselves or for others. Those offering healing prayer open themselves to be channels for God’s love. Those coming to receive healing prayer come with hearts open to receive God’s love and care. Healing is about being drawn to the heart of God.
Those in the congregation who desire prayers of healing for themselves or loved ones will be able to receive a prayer and, if they wish, a laying on of hands by members of the Healing Prayer team during the Eucharist.
What Happens in Healing Prayer?
Healing prayer is a place of vulnerability for both the person praying and the person receiving the prayer. Prayer may bring tears to you or to the persons praying for you. This is all right. Many have said that tears are a gift from God.
In healing prayer we open a space for God. We pray expectantly but not with particular expectations: sometimes we feel a sense of God’s presence, a warmth, a sense of peace. At other times we may not feel anything. Either way, through the prayer being offered, God’s love permeates our being and reaches our soul and the souls of those for whom we offer prayer. As with other sacraments, often it is only afterwards that we realize the gift of God in grace.
In healing prayer we are open to God’s love and care – and somehow God gathers up not only the persons receiving the prayer into God’s healing, but our whole community is scooped into God’s embrace.
